Our child also screamed and screamed at the ROP exams.  I cried along 
with him.  The first 3 I had to leave the room.  I just couldn't stand to 
see him cry like that.  Our nurses said to limit the light afterwards, so 
we cuddled him close and sheltered the light.  He still hates to have his 
eyes looked at (2 1/2 years old).  He doesn't mind other doctors, looking 
in his ears, nose etc.
I think they should find a better way to check for ROP, it looks so 
cruel.
