I totally disagree with your eye doc. that the children don't feel pain
during the procedure. I think they are trying to make themselves feel
better. Our daughter has estopia and also had clogged tear ducts. She had to
deal with numerous exams that were both invasive and downright painful. Her
old eye doc. (we have since fired her) used to get mad at Laura (who was less
than 2) because she cried during every visit. It got to be that I cried
during every visit too. After a year we went back to our Pedi and told her we
hated the eye doc because she always discounted Laura's feelings - both
physical and emotional.
We found a new eye doc who had to spend 3 months wooing Laura and gaining her
trust before he could conduct an eye exam. While the procedures are still
invasive an sometimes painful, this doc does his utmost to make her
comfortable and he never minimizes her discomfort or her tears but cheers her
on for her bravery and strides she has made. Her eye appointments are easier
on the both of us do to a caring and understanding doctor.
