Suzanne,
Congratulations that you've decided to try for another baby. As a preemie
parent, its a much harder decision than most people have. For us, since
Sarina was our first, we really wanted another baby, and decided to try when
she was 13 months (10 months corrected. . .looking back, I think we must have
been out of our minds to space them so closely, though!!!) We went on
vacation to Maine and conceived Joe on the first try!!!
We were worried throughout the pregnancy, but had a very supportive OB who
downplayed the risks while not candy-coating the whole thing. I had a
cerclage put in at 14 weeks (to help my wimpy cervix). I was on restricted
activity. . .no lifting, no sex, and limited time on my feet. I also was put
on home-monitoring at some point during the 2nd trimester. (I don't remember
exactly when). Happy to say that Joe (who will be 3 already next week) was
born healthy and screaming at 41 weeks weighing 8#12. Needless to say, it was
worth all the worry.
I would love to have a third child, though, and my husband feels like we've
been lucky enough, and that the risks of losing a child or having another
preemie would be too high. I feel confident, though, since I carried my 2nd
pregnancy to term, I would at least have a pretty good chance of doing it
again.
Those are my thoughts on the issue. Know that if you do concieve, we as a
group will be behind you all the way, and sending warm thoughts and positive
vibes!!!
