Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that the Oct./Nov. issue of American Baby
magazine (which you can find in dr.s offices usually) will have an
article on Nicholas and our experience with his birth and him being a
premie and all.
I feel a little strange about it because Nicholas was a 31 weeker with
not THAT many problems (he was in the NICU for 4 weeks, and his
problems consisted of 4 days on respirator, PDA (which was closed),
ROP (which is healing), digestive problems (which are gone), and a few
other things>>>) but the point is, not the types of things some of you
have had to endure.
My "strange" feelings stem from the fact that my story isn't
indicative of all premie experiences which are more difficult than
ours, and they could have done one on a family that had a tougher
time. But, then again, to me at the time it was terrifying and the
scariest, most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to go through, so
if this article can help someone to get through their own premie
experience or help them to pay more attention to signs in their
pregnancy, then it will have been worth it (which is why I agreed to
tell our story in the first place).
Anyway, just thought I would share that with you all, our extended
family.......also, I haven't written in a while, Nicholas is doing
well. He was born 3/23/96 weighing 4lbs, 6 oz, and he is now 12 lbs
at 11 1/2 weeks! He has clogged tear ducts right now, so he is very
unhappy, but otherwise great. He won't let us get any sleep though,
so we are anxiously awaiting that day:) Also, just determined that he
has an umbilical hernia, but I hear that is common and the dr wants to
leave it and around age 5 see if it is gone or not.
So that is the update on us!!!!! Talk to you all later!
Stephanie and Sean - parents to Nicholas, 31 weeker, now 11 1/2 weeks
(and very pudgy - which is a good thing after seeing him so tiny in
the NICU).
