Remember how I told you all about the NICU reunion? Well
in the bag of goodies that they give the parents there was
a brochure that had a main topic of "special babies, special care".

It focused on the special care nursery, and highlighted some
of the more severe preemie stories. It also talked about the
hospital being given a grant to do research on NEC. There is
a group of doctors that would like to find out the reason for it,
and find away to stop it before it happens.

I am soooo proud of my hospital - Swedish Hospital, Seattle, WA. and
am very glad that my babies were born here.

Also, did anyone read the story in Readers Digest, June 1996 about
the little girl born twice? Very good article!! The mother found
out (thru u/s) that her baby had a hole in the diaphram and so her
spleen, liver, stomach, and kidney's were headed up to her lungs.
The kidney's moved the baby's heart. Anyway, the article talks
about fetal surgery, and then they describe how at 26 weeks they
took the little girl out of the womb, moved her organs down, and
sewed the hole shut. Then they placed her back in the uterus, and
sewed the mom up. The mom was placed on a heart monitor and at
33 weeks when they lost the heartbeat, they rushed her to OR and
did an emergancy c-section. The little girl spent 4 weeks in a
NICU and then came home. They have not had any problems. She is
now a very healthy 2 year old! Amazing huh!!! What a strong family
and what a determined little girl!

Well, just thought I would share...:)

     Have a great day!!
