Hi everyone. We attended our Neo reunion this past Sun. and it was really
fun. I spoke extensively with one of our neonatologists about readmission
to NICU, intensive care facilities on pediatrics etc. This is the lowdown
at our hospital. They DO readmit to NICU. As Dr. Stratton put it, "As long
as they fit the equipment, we'll take them." If a baby is highly contagious
then they usually have to send them up to Peds. simply because they have no
isolation area in the current NICU. Peds. currently has a new intermediate
care area but no intensive care. If a child's condition demands intensive
care then unfortunately they have to be placed in the adult unit. When this
occurs someone from Neo or Peds. goes to that area to look after the child.
I'm not sure how common an occurrence this is. Trenton and I spent Tues.
night on Peds. He came down with some sort of infection or virus, his temp.
spiked and he had a febrile seizure. We spent 5 hours in the ER that
afternoon and then the night on Peds. Let me tell you, it was hell. I have
previously expressed my concerns about the level of nursing care on peds.
and I was equally unimpressed this time around. Maybe I just expect too
much. Our pediatrician saw us in the ER and discussed what his orders for
peds. would be. If I had not personally been aware of his orders I doubt
that many of them would have been carried out in a timely fashion or even at
all. The manager of NICU is now also the manager of Peds. and I'm thinking
seriously of presenting my concerns to her. Do any of you also have
concerns about the Peds. floor of your hospital. Am I being unreasonable?
