I was looking at the list of resource books sent by someone today, and one of
them mentioned Kangaroo Care. My twins are 14 months old now and it's amazing
how much you forget about those first weeks in the NICU at this point (I'd
forgotten about K care). For anyone with a baby in the NICU right now that
does not know about Kangaroo care (it is fairly new), it is WONDERFUL. It
simply involves holding the baby (ies) skin to skin on your chest, and they
drape you with a blanket. The nurses even took a polaroid of us doing this.
It was the most wonderful, relaxing feeling to have those two little babies
snuggled up to me asleep. It is supposed to help them in many ways, both
physically and emotionally. If you don't have this at your NICU, please ask
them about it, or e-mail me and I'll dig out my flyer on it from my NICU.
