My son Alex, almost 4 born at 25 weeks had cryo at 38 weeks and then laser
a month later. He was followed at six months intervals and it was at his 2
yr old check up that the opthamologist said the surgery scars had healed
and then at his 3 yr check everything was fine and he didn't need to be
seen until 5.
He doesn't need glasses (rare) and the eye guy was able to tell what his
vision was(20/20) just by looking at the retinas etc. I have no idea what
a diopter is. There seems to be no difference in the quality of his
eyesight. We can't tell how much peripheral vision has been lost until
Alex has enough language to be able to describe what he sees. That is one
reason for the 5 yr old check. We do suspect there is significant loss,
from the way he moves his head and has problems seeing what is at his
feet.
Ask the retina specialist about the degree of scarring. It takes a while
for it to subside. That's all I know. Hope it helps.
