Trevor was born with an hemangiomia on his left butt
cheek/ hip area. It didnt pose any problem until the
day we were leaving the NICU on his due date . It had
continued to grow with him all that time and was raised.
His was much larger than anyone has mentioned here .
His started to break open and seep. So when we brought
him home we had to put a bandage on it . It continued to
bleed .. VERY HEAVILY at times . We ended up going to a
dermitologist because Trevor losing alot of blood each
day . He performed laser surgery on it and Trevor was
put on Steroids . Just this week he was taken off the
Steroids and the bleeding has stopped for over a month now
This is not a common occurance , but of course it had to
happen to Trevor . His birthmark ulcerized ( thats what the
dermitologist called it )
The hemangioma now has stopped growing with him so its on its
way to hopefully shrinking. I think Trevor will always have a
scar there now . But its not a place you would notice it so we
arent concerned . Just keep an eye on it . Its on an area that is
rubbed against or covered the way Trevors was this could happen.
And believe me its NO fun at all . He couldnt lay on his back without
screaming until about 2 weeks ago ( He is 6 1/2 momths actual- 3 months
adjusted)
Normally hemangiomas do not case pain but if they open and become
ulcerized they case a great deal of pain . The plastic surgerons would
not remove his because it was WAY to large and would be a series of
surgeries .
I hope this has shown a bit of a different area concerning hemangiomas.
