A week ago, I put forth a question about Colin's diaper rash which was not clearing up. Doug, thank you, suggested the possibility of a zinc deficiency, which is not uncommon in preemies although frequently overlooked (are you the Neonatologist? - I heard there was one "out there!").
Upon discussing this w/ the county health nurse who visits monthly for weight checks, she mentioned that low zinc levels can also be associated w/ poor appetite, poor growth and impaired taste and has put in a referral for a Nutritionist. Meanwhile, Colin had blood drawn this am to see what his levels are.
I am posting this because it seems like so many of us parents of preemies are having feeding difficulties, which can be so stressful. Maybe zinc supplementation could help...
