I am probably just a lazy parent, but we do not sterilize. My twins are my 3 and 4th kids. We wash bottles in our dishwasher (although I did sterilize before used the first time). We have our water heater set pretty high. Our hospital and our ped said it was ok not to sterilize.
I also am the oldest of 8 kids, so I probably got my habits from my mother.
All my nipples and lids (we go through a ton) go in a big green tupperware colander with the grid lid on it, in the dishwasher, although I usually do prerinse with sudsy water before putting them in as they sit there all day.
We are pretty healthy in our family, which is pretty good for having a 3 and 5 yo in preschool and public school, along with our 2 preemies. We focus more on handwashing to stay healthy..
Good luck! I am sure you will get MANY different answers on this.
