My first thought is to have assigned nursing teams to the smaller/longer stay infants.
My Itty bit was the one the nurses hoped they wouldn't draw (once she was off the table and in the isolette and beyond). We spent 172 days in NICU and I think it would have been drastically shorter with the same team working with her daily (we asked many nurses, though they loved to visit her and see how she was, they didn't want to have such a demanding/grumpy Itty bit).
On the positive side, once she was home and settled a bit she started to calm and realize it wasn't such a terrible world and that there were positive holds!! She is an absolutely adorable child who loves to be center of attention but can do fine without it too! She smiles beautifully and practices laughing all the time!!
We also had a part time doc, whom we loved dearly, though in hindsight I would have changed that. Though i can't imagine anyone else caring for her as much as she did!!
