Cris. When Trevor was born I was in a make-shift room directly behind the
nurses' station because I was so sick. While I was only there for a total
of 8 hours max. there were at least two different new moms at the other end
of the room separated from me by a curtain only. I knew that they had their
new healthy babies and that shortly I was going to have a c-section and my
baby would be taken to NICU. I could hear the coos of the brand new parents
and baby and it just killed me. My nurse could tell what was going on and
she talked to me about it. That helped some. Boy, I think I'm going to cry
right now. I had my own room after the c-section until I went home 3 or 4
days later. All the rooms in post-partum at Carle Hospital have two beds
but they try not to double up if possible. This leaves room for dads who
want to stay over. I also had my own room with Trenton too. I have never
done well with roomates in any situation and I especially didn't want one in
the hospital. Luckily in L&D, it was either a quiet time or I just couldn't
hear the other women in labour. Would have been tough if I could have
though. The beds are hard as rocks, I agree but they blew up a neat air
mattress for me and that really helped a lot. They let me take it home too.
