Hey, everyone. I had epidurals both times (even with a shunt--imagine 
that!!). With my daughter, I had two done. The first didn't work at 
all, so they did it again. The second one--oh, the memory!!!--worked 
ON ONE SIDE!! My God, it was horrible. My left leg felt ENORMOUS. I 
thought it was an elephant's leg (pretty close...).
 With Drew, my second and LAST, I had the epidural on my doc's 
recommendation, and although it was hell going in (hard labor by 
then, contractions every min. or so), it DID stick, and they left it 
in for my tubal ligation the next day. Had it not been for the 
epidural that time, I wouldn't have lived through the labor. Drew was 
8 #, 3 oz., and he's still a big boy (20 mo last week, and is a 
good-sized 2 yo). Through all of this NO SHUNT TROUBLE!!!! (I've had 
this one going on sixteen years!)
