Fred,
God bless fathers!!!!!!!CONGRADULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please stay with this group, we are here to help.
First. Don't feel guilty about the respirator. More than likely the moms of
the *smaller* kids in the unit DID receive steroid shots prior to delivery.
This makes a world of difference in lung development. Don't think of James
as being forced to use a respirator. Think of it as giving him a rest. He
needs all the energy he can muster to deal with life on the outside. The
respirator is only giving him a chance to concentrate on other things and
build up his strength.

Everyone on this list (and there are over 80) know exactly what you are
feeling and will answer ANY questions you and your wife may have. We all
know that feeling of seeing our miracles hooked to tubes and wires. Try not
to be intimidated, NICU is a strange, noisy, scary, hurried and miraculous
place. Just go and be with James, and soon it won't feel so horrible.

We are here for you. ASK US ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
