Because I was having triplets, I was put on the home monitor at
approx. 22 weeks. I too used it 2 hrs / day and called in my results
to what I referred to as the monitor police. Those were some tough
ladies who always knew when I was having too much fun, like actually
getting out of the house to go to the doctor's. I never felt any
contractions. Twice I was sent to the hospital with too many
contractions per hour, I was given fluids (IV) and lots of tests and
sent home. The third time I was sent I told my husband that the
monitor police were out of hand, but I went--was admitted, given IV,
mag. etc. and things went downhill from there.
Two things--I guess the monitor police knew what they were doing after
all and I think that the stress of being in the hospital (and them not
feeding me in case I was to deliver) made things worse. I also have a
sneaking suspicion that the mag really contributed to the worsening of
the pre-eclampsia (sp?) that finally made me deliver at just 33 wks.
(I was in the hospital about 5 days before delivery).
