Insurance and financial concerns

As for your financial comment, I agree completely. I have excellent
insurance coverage through my job, but due to all of Katie's NICU
troubles and general chaos surrounding her birth, I was late in filing
*ONE* sheet of paper and my insurance company tried to deny coverage for ANY
of her care. I did not sleep for nearly 2 weeks while I awaited their
response to my appeal for an exception (all this on top of the other
fears connected to her preemie condition!). I was lucky and they did
eventually pay her bills, but looking back on all this, the insurance
company's treatment of me was one of the worst things about the whole
experience. I cannot imagine that the lack of one single sheet of paper
in a file somewhere could have meant financial ruin for my husband and
myself, but according to the insurance company, that was the case. They
were extremely cold-blooded about it. They were not the least bit
interested in the dynamics of the *whole* picture - just what we were
dealing with and why we didn't get their stupid form in on time. I can't
help but worry there are folks out there who WEREN'T successful in
appealing a ruling and did maybe lose their house, car, etc over a single
sheet of paper. It still gives me stomach pains thinking about it.
