Hi everyone,
We also did the O2 thing for 7.5 months with Zachary. We only live in a one
story house, but I also had a 3 yr old and an 18 month old at the time. :0
It seems like someone was constantly tripping over the tube and knocking the
portable (which we kept Zach on at all times) over. Anyone who has had a
baby on O2 knows what kind of sound that makes! It sounds like a foghorn!!
The tape that they will give you at the NICU is the best. I could not find
anything as good, not even through the O2 company. I would just get a big
roll every time we took ZAch to the pulmonologist. ALso, be sure to use the
stuff (what's the name again??) that goes between the tape and the skin.
It's like a moleskin sort of product and it really protects the area that is
constantly being taped.
Our biggest challenge was when Zach started rolling. he would get the tube
wrapped around his neck. It was really scary, especially at night. Even
though he was on the monitor and I knew I would know if he stopped breathing,
it still scared me. What I would do is put him in a onesie, then run the
tube down the back of his clothes and out the lower leg of his one-piece,
long leg outfit. That helped a lot.
