I have not been home all weekend and have just been catching up on my mail.
We had a horrible situation happen here Fri. night, I wiil post about it in a
couple of days, after I have had time to deal with the situation. It has
nothing to do with the kids' health, so please, no one worry.
Thanks for the posts on Taylor's 'world order' routines.
Doug, Taylor was given a complete eval in Feb. The eval included a
developmental ped, and a child psych. They did not mention anything about
possibe autism. THe psych did have some concerns about possible obsesive
compulsive stuff though. Taylor does not have a problem with routines. He
just has a thing about 'spacial order'. He is also VERY spacially oriented.
On one of the tests given to him, the Leiter, he scored at 4 1/2 yrs (he will
be 3 in April). He excells at non-verbal problem solving and spacial
orientations, he loves to try and figure out how things work and how they are
supposed to go together. He has engineering in his blood,(two aunts, and his
dad are engineers). He has just recently been diagnosed with a low level
hearing loss, which explains alot of his delays in other areas. He is
barefoot all the time, he just never liked to walk barefoot in grass or sand
before. Carpet, concrete, and hardwood have never been a problem.
We are using the brushing techniques (thanks for the thought INA), joint
compression, and massage and stretching to help him organize his reactions to
stimulations, and have recently begun to see some real breakthroughs.
His feeding problems are really our biggest problem at this point. I am
beginning to think that his therapist was wrong when she told me to relax
because "he won't go to college eating baby food".
His third birthday is coming up, and I am a little dishartend knowing that he
won't eat any of his cake.
We are requesting that he get into some behavior therapy, because I do think
that part of his problem is that his aversion to food has become a habit. He
has gagged and stuff so many times that now he won't even try. It is sort of
a joke around our house that if he is bugging you, just offer him food, and
he'll run away.
Has anyone in the group had any experience with behavior therapy?????????
