AL, PAT, ASHLEY & NATHAN
THE JONES FAMILY
UPPER MARLBORO, MD, USA

Hi Everybody!

We have been blessed with two wonderful children.

Nathan, our 17 month old (14 months corrected) was born at 25 weeks
weighing 1 pound, 7 ounces. Some of you have visited Nathan's page
(http://members.aol.com/ajones3224/awjones/family/nathan.htm) and have
sent us email. He spent 6 months in the NICU. He is now making up for
lost time with a vengeance. He has been walking for five weeks. His active
problems are still failure to thrive, reflux, and carnitine deficiency. He
weighs 18 pounds, 12 ounces (just below the 5th percentile); is on three
medications (Cisapride,
Zantac, and Carnitine), he takes PediaSure with MCT oil, and has some
developmental delays. His biggest delays are in speech development and
self-feeding. However, he is a happy, busy, determined, affectionate,
and rough little boy.

Ashley, our 4 1/2 year old (going on 60 years of age) was born full term
weighing 4 pounds, 14 ounces due to IUGR (Interuterine Growth
Retardation) with a "grade 3" placenta. She spent four days in the
NICU. She developed hypoglycemia and had skeletal abnormalities that
were diagnoised as ``Lacunar Skull.'' However, her CT scan revealed
that her head and brain were normal. Although she is still small for
her age, she is within the normal growth parameters. Currently, she is
in afternoon pre-school (three days a week) and is home schooled by Pat.
She loves her brother, lets him play with her toys when she is no longer
interested in them, and is always willing to let us know when Nathan is
doing something he should not be doing. What a big sister! Her only
active problem is that she has too much hair for us to deal with!

We are glad to be a part of this preemie discussion group. We look
forward to meeting everyone, sharing our concerns and experience, and
offering support within the group.

Because He Lives!
