  hi, john!

when wesley was at pennsylvania hospital, here in philadelphia, my husband and
i had to scrub our hands and put on gowns every time we went into the NICU.
it's been almost 16 months since wes came home, and i can't believe how much it
upsets me to hear about a NICU that lets people in in street clothes!

i know all about the cracked, red, dry hands syndrome, but i was happy to do it
just to keep wes healthy. we got so used to doing all the preliminaries that
it seemed weird not to have to prepare so much after he came home. i still
find myself washing my hands more than i ever used to before wes was born, but
  i'll never stop feeling that's a good thing. it's amazing how germ-conscious
you get after a stint in the NICU and how long those ideas last after the NICU
  experience is over.
