preemie look

Ina,
Taylor is just now starting to outgrow his 'preemie look.' It mostly has to
do with the pressure on their developing heads. When babies are in the
womb, they have consistent pressure on all sides of their heads at all times.
When they're born too soon and forced to the world they have to deal with
unequal pressure from the air and from the bed they lie in. Most of the
time, they have their heads tilted to one side or the other causing more
pressure on the sides of the face and skull. THus enlongating the face.
We had wonderful nurses at our NICU. They filled us in on all these little
bits of info.
The differences in the pressure from in the womb and out of the womb is why
so many 'early' preemies are so sensitive to tactile stimulation as well.
The differences in the pressure on their skin just when the nerve ending are
making the connections causes them to react differently.
We are still dealing with Taylor's sensitivities. Right now it is his
biggest hurdle.
Tammy, mom to Taylor and angel Alex, and to Taylor, and wife to 'home for the
moment' Gary.
