Hi all,

Justine - Your breastfeeding questionnaire is great. I'm
working my way through it slowly and it is providing me with valuable
opportunity to reflect on my experience with trying to breastfeed our
son. I fed him for eight months and it was always stressful.

I don't think I had good advice from anyone, except
the local Maternal and Child Health nurse and
she always made me feel I had done my best and it would
be O.K. to give up trying to breastfeed at any time I felt I couldn't
continue. This helped me keep going more than any of the advice from
well meaning people who insisted that breastfeeding was the best and only
suitable nutrition for my poor little baby. I needed to feel it was my
choice.

I couldn't find any printed information about breastfeeding
premmies or anything remotely relevant to the problems I was having.
Just getting Vincent to open his mouth was a major task, much less
getting my nipple in far enough - expecting him to suck as well was too
much to ask. But we did it one way or another.

I think of all the other
mothers of little ones struggling without any effective help. It would
be wonderful if you could collect and publish the responses to your
survey - are you planning to do this? The lactation consultants and
Special Care nurses need the information as much as we mothers do. I'll
return the survey  soon, promise
