Hi
My name is Fran, and I joined this group to be able to talk to others
who are in the same position as my husband and I. On October 27,
1994 our son Aaron was born at 27 weeks, weighing 800 gms (1 lb, 12
oz) and 13 inches long. Our story is similar to many of yours; my
pregnancy was going great, without any problems until 4 days before
Aaron was born. Then I went into labor and spent 4 days on Ritodrine,
terbutaline, magnesium, etc., but he was born anyway. He spent
almost 3 months in the NICU and came home 3 days before his due date.
Lucky for us, he had no IVH, and after the first month, during which
he was intubated and had some lung and kidney problems, the rest was
much smoother.
Now that Aaron has been home for more than a year, those memories of
the "vigil" by his incubator are starting to fade until I read other
people's stories, and then all the memories return. I hope that
anybody reading this or part of the group who's baby is still in the
NICU will be reassured that although there's no guarantee, there
really are a lot of good outcomes.
Aaron's development seems to be pretty much on track, but the biggest
problem that we are having is with his eating and weight gain. I was
hoping to see if others in the group have had similar experiences.
