John,

"The Premature Baby Book," by Helen Harrison, was (and still is) an 
invaluable resource for us.  Fortunately, we were given the book a 
few weeks before Melissa's birth, knowing that she would be 
premature (our hospital's NICU gave it to us when we toured the 
unit).  By the time she was born, we were somewhat familiar with a 
lot of the terminology we were hearing.  There is a wonderful 
glossary at the end of the book.  Hopefully this book will help you 
as much as it has helped us!
