When a new business wants to set up it usually requires a town planning permit specific to
the type of business intended for the premises it intends to operate from, ie shop,
restaurant, bar, etc. A permit remains attached to the premises even when the owner of
the business changes. This means that a current operator who has regard to residential
amenity can be replaced by another one who does not give a damn on the sale of a business
without further input. Therefore its important to seek to secure appropriate conditions on
every planning permit when first issued. Each planning permit application must be
displayed prominently on the premises concerned. (It is usually a yellow poster.)
1. Objection
re planning permit application to City of Yarra (click for form)
This is a suggestion about what points to cover in
an objection regarding a planning permit application. Preferably use your own words - they
will carry more weight than a copied out form letter!
Make sure your objection is received by the deadline which
is shown on the application.
2. Objection to Liquor Licensing
Commission
In addition to a planning permit, a licensed premises
requires a liquor licence. The application is usually advertised on a white A4 size poster
prominently displayed on the premises. You should make much the same type of points as the
above. Send to:
The Liquor Licensing Commission
Nauru House
80 Collins St
Melbourne 3000
Please send copy of your objections to Fitzroy Residents' Association, particularly if
you want FRA to speak or appear on your behalf at Council or the LLC.
