The FRA ’s recent achievements include:
- Lobbying for the City of Yarra to adopt a code for late trading nightclubs, bars and
cafes to minimise adverse impacts on residents. This has now been adopted as part of
Council's planning scheme. It specifies that Council's vision for the Brunswick and
Johnston Streets area is for food oriented venues, and will discourage later trading
nightclubs.
- Extensive input in 1998 to Council’s Municipal Strategic Statement, a lengthy set
of planning guidelines which has now been formally OK'd by the State government and will
hopefully provide some planning controls in the municipality.
- Co-ordinating resident input to about 50 planning and licensing applications in Fitzroy,
particularly where these would fall outside the Late Trading Policy.
