"Most dangerous public road," are you serious?! The Albert Park roadway is recognised as being one of the smoothest and safest stretches of roadway in Australia. Now if we could just teach fools like you and the clowns that crash on it how to drive.

In 48 hours two accidents one fatal an one near fatal accident. When are we going to get Melbourne's most dangerous public road made safe for everyday motoring, instead of it's safty being comperised for a Grand Prix Trackin a Public Park. From the ATLAS F1 site:

Australian GP Benefits Local Economy

24/6/2000

More than $70 million was injected into the economy of the Australian state of Victoria by this year's Australian Grand Prix.

The Victorian State Government is set to release information which shows this year's race created up to $18 million more economic activity than first Australian Formula One Grand Prix held in Melbourne in 1996.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation chairman Ron Walker wouldn't reveal the size of the windfall, but said that good weather and more overseas visitors improved the situation this year. "Ford, for example, brought out 300 people from around the world for the launch of Jaguar", said Walker.

The information set to be released in two weeks time is from a survey by the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research, and is the first Grand Prix studied since the inaugural 1996 race.

Just thought I'd click on to see what foolish and uneducated comments have common from the yellow ribbon briade.

Naturally, there have been som rippers...wow, what an intelligent response by the likes of Kevin Summers and George (don't you have the guts to place your name here)...NOT! Obviously, they've been talking with the likes of Jed Low, Johanna Johnson, Joan and Peter Logan and co. By the way, is Diana Burliegh a man and oh, I think there's one thing missing from Rod Quantock's comedy routine...comedy!

By the way Georgia, I do have a life...I don't sit in a shitty yellow tent complaining about something like the Grand Prix which gives so much pleasure to so many people both here in Melbourne and around the world! If there's anything which works me up they're real issues facing Australia today...homelessness, unemployment, drugs...

See ya next year!

It must be jealousy. Why else would anyone continue to attack and oppose a public event that is enjoyed by so many? I am not interested in certain other sports so I do not involve myself in their affairs & definitely do not attack those who follow that sport, whatever it may be. Good luck to them, they have found something they enjoy.

Its strange that the SAP opponents do not attack other sporting fans like footy or tennis followers (for example) which also use vast areas of public space which could be used equally well as parkland. Likewise, the suggestion that F1 is a showcase for tobacco sponsorship is a red herring. Around half the field does not rely on tobacco sponsorship while tobacco advertising is prohibited for many races.

I went to the race this year and I shall never forget the twinkle in the eyes of men, women and children around me when the Formula 1’s took to the track. It was a great family outing with many people using it as an opportunity to catch up with friends and relatives from interstate and overseas.

Thanks to the organisers - I had a ball. Forza Ferrari but keep an eye on those cats!

Gee,
Kind of makes you proud to be Australian doesn't it. Such a range of vocabulary, compassion and understanding of others point of view, particularly towards those with a comittment to community consultation.

I'm sure there are a a lot of perfectly nice and caring Grand Prix fans, pity they're represented here to the world as name calling, swearing intolerants.

So, another great Grand PRix has been run and won...congratulations to Ron Walker and crew on another fabulous event as well as to all those attended for providing the event with so happiness, cheer and fun.

To the Save Albert Park group...rather than trying to get rid of something which provides so much happiness to so many people, why not be as dedicated and devoted to more serious and social causes...like homelessness, drugs, poverty...nah, that would mean getting your hands dirty and moving away from your precious little poncy area.

Unlike you and your cause, the Grand Prix is there for everyone to enjoy!

See ya next year...
Wayne Messier

PS How come we hear the same old comments from the same old people like Peter Gillespie, Joan Boyd, Joan and Peter Logan, Jed Low and Johanna Johnstone...obviously, there are no other members of SAP...by the way, where's Johnny Diedrich, Iain Stewart and Jenny Chandler?

PPS What do SAP and the audience from the former Ray Martin show have in common...they're all fat and old!

you people have nothing better to do than winge about something that brings enjoyment to all who come.

All you do is sit in your little yellow tent and count how many days u can sit there. your are fighting for a lost cause, if you had any chance of getting rid of the grand prix it would have been before the first event.

you people have nothing to do in your lives go work for a charity, maybe you could do something good for people who need it.

P.S If the government were REALLY loseing money on the grand prix they would have never ran another event again.

Callida and Janet Johnson, you people must be bloody morons. Formula 1 World Championship is the third most popular sporting event in the world after the Olympic Games and the Soccer World Cup... only difference being that the Formula 1 Championship is held every year and 16-17 cities annually get to share in the money that it brings to their economy. Schools and roads cost money too... maybe we should close those down!! Maybe you idiots should do a bit of research into the economic benefit to your state before you start showing your ignorance to the world...... their are cities all over the world fighting to get one of the 16-17 Grand Prix slots... you should feel priveledged that we have one in Melbourne...... Well I'm proud to have a mullet so shut up all of you. I don't care that this
is about the grand prix. I've got a really grand prick myself, and an even
grander mullet. Bite my balls!

Hey, we visit Melbourne because of the F1 GP. Albert Park is a fantastic circuit, handy to the city center etc. Don't give up on something great.

Let's explain this very carefully, one more time. Many of us here in Albert Park actually LIKE motor racing. But, we think the decision to put a race in this particular city park was secretive, peremptory, undemocratic and silly. Now that we've had the thing for a while, we can realise that the particular benefits alleged to come from putting the race close to the centre of town have not materialised. It is not true the GP watchers around the world have been saying: "Oh wow, that backdrop looks fantastic. I think I've got an irresistible urge to visit Melbourne!" No, they don't care where it is. And there are other locations in which the government could have constructed a purpose built facility which could have been used all year round for many other high octane sporting events to the general profit of all. There, and I didn't use a single obscenity.

THE GRAND PRIX IS FANTASTIC, IT WILL GIVE VICTORIA TOURISM A BOOM. DON'T MAKE VICTORIA GO BEHIND OTHER COUNTRY OR OTHER STATE WITHIN AUSTRALIA. THIS EVENT WILL MAKE VICTORIA KNOWN TO OTHER COUNTRY. STOP PROTESTING AND GET A LIFE.

how remarkable that the petrol sniffers invariably fail to fully identify themselves. then again, why should one be surprised?

I agree with SV. If nutters like Jacqui & Kevin had their way, we'd all be sitting around unemployed painting necklace beads. F1 brings the international community together in a vibrant celebration of multiculturalism & human endeavour. Anyone who has ever been to a race will tell you about the wonderful warm, friendly, family atmosphere.

To Jacqui

It is typical of brainless people like you to criticise anyone who wishes to do or is doing good things for the state. Pull your head out of the sand and smell the rose. Victoria, thanks to the ex-premier, is a vibrant place and is going places. Stop whinging and live life a little.

This is another legacy along with Crown Casino, Ciy Link and Docklands of our meglomaniac ex Premier. The GP is a waste of money and is environmentally, politically, and socially bankrupt. Get over it!

I know what you mean Teresa. I have a seat in the Clark stand (Turn 9) and I can't wait for the sights & sounds of F1 engines to begin. I went last year & had a ball. Hopefully the plan to make Albert Park a permanent motor racing complex will happen soon so that there are no disruptions to the greatest show on earth.

The current union problems with setting up this years event would not occur if you had not stolen 80% of our suburbs open space for 5 months instead of using a permanent facility. Innternational Motor racing would not survive without sponsership by the Worlds greatest Killer companies the TOBACCO MANAFACTURERS.

The union troubles with the corporate boxes will teach you to steel 68% of our suburbs open space to run a motor race which woulld fall over if it was not for sponsorship by the Multi National companies who make KILLER TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND AN UNPOPULAR local Toll Road.
