  Folklife Home

  • Assists individuals, groups and institutions interested in and involved in the many facets of folklife in Victoria
  • Provides an important link to communities for many organisations and institutions
  • Initiates or develops programs in partnership with an institution, a company, a school, a festival or an artist
  • Conducts research, seminars, lectures, performances and workshops
  • Works with one of Victoria's major cultural assets and tourist attractions, its folk and traditional dance groups to ensure their continued participation in public events
  • Represents the interests of folk and traditional cultures on the steering committee for the Melbourne Museum Children's Festival
The Maxine Ronnberg Folklife Award

Primary School students discover the folklife heritage in their local community, and make an illustrated book about their findings. Students, teachers and family gain an awareness and appreciation of folklife and traditions.

Traditions and Transitions Traditions and Transitions folk narrative in the contemporary world

In 1988, the Victorian Folklife Association initiated and coordinated a successful bid by Australia to host the 13th Congress of the International Society for Folk Narrative Research in Melbourne, in July 2001.
