| Lake Gwelup is a 75 hectare C-Class Reserve,
vested in the City of Stirling centered on the 25 hectare Lake Gwelup
Wetland which it surrounded by woodland and grassed areas.
The Friends of Lake Gwelup first came together as
a group in 1994 to encourage the preservation and rehabilitation of Lake
Gwelup's wetland and remnant bushland. The Friends work closely with the
City of Stirling helping with the implementation of the City's Lake
Gwelup Reserve Environmental Management Plan of 1992.
The Friends have focused on these main objectives:
- Removing introduced plants and revegetating
with indigenous species.
- Encouraging the well-being of indigenous
flora and fauna.
- Representing the viewpoints of those in the
community who wish to preserve and regenerate the natural areas of
the Reserve for future generations.
- Increase public appreciation of the area
through environmental awareness.
