Perth Urban Bushland Fungi (PUBF) began in 2004 as a collaborative project between the Urban Bushland Council and the WA Naturalists' Club in conjunction with the WA Herbarium, with financial support from Lotterywest. Over the past 10 years, many well attended fungi forays and workshops have been held in urban bushlands of Perth. These events have highlighted growing requests by community and professional land managers to address the generally low level of awareness and knowledge about fungi and their importance and role in bushland management. PUBF addresses this gap and aims to improve awareness and knowledge so that fungi become an integral part of long term urban bushland management. - PERTH URBAN BUSHLAND FUNGI PROJECT

Lake Gwelup Fungi Foray Saturday 18th July 2009 The Friends of Lake Gwelup will host this Reserves third Fungi Survey. Why? Since before settlement in Western Australia, scientists have been accurately storing information about the wide species of plants and animals in the region, however until recent years very little has been researched about the interaction of fungi with other species, particularly plants. It is now known that without the involvement of fungi in ecosystems that normal processes and bush regeneration may be significantly hindered. Collecting data from our reserve will help to build an accurately identified reference collection accompanied by high quality data of fungi of the Perth region which will be stored at the WA Herbarium. You can read our Winter 2006 Newsletter for information about different types of fungi. It is important component of land and habitat conservation to record the various species of fungi which exist on Reserves throughout the metropolitan area.
