About the FriendsThe Friends of Lake Gwelup first came together as a group in 1994 to encourage the preservation and rehabilitation of the Lake Gwelup wetland and remnant bush land. About Lake GwelupLocated about 15km North of Perth Western Australia and centered on the 25 hectare Lake Gwelup wetland, the 75 hectare Bush Forever Site (#212) and C-Class Reserve of Lake Gwelup is surrounded by woodland and grassed areas. The name "Gwelup" was derived from the Aboriginal word "Gwelgannow" meaning "to shift position" and refers to the small lake which was once a wider swampland spreading across the Mitchell Freeway to the east. more ...
