National Park Proposal.
A proposal by the Friends of the Pyrites to transform The Lerderderg State Park, The Macedon Ranges State Park, The Pyrites State Park and parts of the Long Forest State Park into one National Park has been put forward for discussion. A working party has been established and has been working towards writing a submission which aims to have the areas mentioned declared a National Park
Members of the Friends of the Lerderderg Gorge (FOLDERG) are approaching the matter cautiously at this stage. One of the issues to be resolved is the access which is currently enjoyed by many users of the Lerderderg. Horse riders and 4 Wheel Drive groups may be excluded from the a new National park. Added to this is the concern of many who believe that the head waters of the Lerderderg should be included
