Cleaning-up Waurn Ponds Creek

Litter Facts

Litter is not only unsightly; It is dangerous for the many species which share our environment. If you have waste, dispose of it thoughtfully. If you see litter which can be safely removed for appropriate disposal and you are in a position to do this, then you should.
Our waste is managed by Barwon Regional Waste Management Group. Here they present some Litter Facts. Because there is so much litter dropped or blown onto public spaces around our land, our nation has a special Clean-up Australia Day. As part of the Australia wide effort, groups from the Friends of Waurn Ponds Creek remove substantial quantities of litter from sites along the waterway each year.

We are all MAD (making a difference)

Wednesday March 26th 2003

Today 120 grade 5/6 students from Mandama Primary School in Grovedale decided to have a MAD day - Make A Difference day- and they chose to go to the Waurn Ponds Creek to collect rubbish between Cobbin Farm and Pioneer Road.  40 bags later they stopped for a rest and to listen to members of Friends of Waurn Ponds Creek and Corangamite Catchment Management Authority tell them the history of the creek and its present poor condition which volunteers are now trying to rectify.  The volunteers are local residents, and other schools, who are all making a difference by tidying up the creek and planting indigenous trees and shrubs to beautify the area and entice native birds and animals back.
