Friends of Baucau are the individuals, communities and local governments of the cities of Darebin and Yarra in Melbourne, Australia, which have a Friendship Relationship with the communities and District Administration of Baucau, Timor-Leste.

The Friends of Baucau is a Council sponsored Community project, which works with the people of Baucau in East Timor to assist them with re-building their community following independence. FoB are always looking for new supporters and volunteers.

"Friends of Baucau AVI position vacancy - Community Development Worker" Applications close on March 10th

The Friends of Baucau seeks a Community Development Worker to support the development of projects in Baucau and maintaining effective working relationships with Baucau Administration. You will also be responsible for supporting the financial sustainability and self-management of the BBH Centre. Download more information about this position and assignment description.

Friends of Baucau
-Fundraising Update
fundraising target $24000

Friends of Baucau undertake a number of activities to raise public awareness and funds for the projects at the Baucau Buka Hatene in the township of Baucau, East Timor. This year FoB members and many new volunteers have organised 3 All Ages 'Rock for Timor' events at the Fitzroy and Collingwood Town Halls, the Annual Yarra Trivia Night in September and the Friends of Baucau Coffee Stall presence at numerous community events-selling lattes, chai, tea, packets of coffee and Timorese crafts.

Fundraising is pivotal to the work of Friends of Baucau, ensuring the sustainability of the learning centre in Baucau.

Volunteers Needed Summer 2007-08
The Friends of Baucau need volunteers to help raise funds which go directly to East Timor through selling coffee and crafts at events. The November/December period leading up to Christmas are a very busy time for FoB. If you can help, please contact George Bennett on 03 8470 8362 or gbennett@darebin.vic.gov.au. Save the Earth, reduce greenhouse emissions and support Friends of Baucau! Purchase energey-saving light globes from Darebin and Yarra Customer Service Centres in Preston, Collingwood and Richmond for only $5.00. $1.85 will go towards the Buka Hatene, which is intended to be solar powered in the future.

"Buy Timor Leste coffee and help support the Baucau district" $6.50 per 250gm pkt.
50% of the sale of each packet of Timorese blend coffee goes to Friends of Baucau programs in East TImor. The beans are roasted, ground and packaged by Coffee Mio for the Friends of Baucau. The beans are the Arabica variety, which are organically grown in Timor Leste. Available from all Customer Service Centres, and soon to be available through all Libraries and Leisure Centres in Darebin and Yarra.
scarves on sale There are many Timorese crafts for sale at Friends of Baucau stalls at various community events including small Bookmarks, Tais Scarves, Shawls and "rugs". An example of the beautiful scarves can be seen here worn by East Timor Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.
