Kangaroos Victims of Factory Fluoride Pollution

Australian Coat of Arms - Revised The Age recently featured an article on the detrimental effects of fluoride emissions on the fauna living and grazing at two industrial sites in Victoria - the Alcoa aluminium smelter near Portland and the Austral Bricks factory in the outer northern Melbourne suburb of Craigieburn.

Skeletal Fluorosis is a 'hidden' condition in Australia, undiagnosed by Doctors who typically aren't trained to recognise it in people. Sometimes it's misdiagnosed as osteo-arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or other related health conditions. But it's a step in the right direction that it's now recognised in kangaroos.

In the last few years, dozens and possibly hundreds of kangaroos have been culled due to skeletal fluorosis.
