Local History
Flemington and Kensington are two of a number of inner suburbs located to the north-west of the city of Melbourne; others include North Melbourne and Ascot Vale, and to their north, Moonee Ponds and Essendon. This area is one of Melbourne's oldest and it has been traditionally working-class and middle class. In local government, the region today is divided between the cities of Melbourne and Moonee Valley.
