1998 HIKE
FROM CRADLE MOUNTAIN TO LAKE ST CLAIRE.
In April 1998 five members of the 1st Sunbury Venturer
Unit hiked the Overland track in Tasmania. The overland track runs
from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Claire, and is approximatly 90 kilometers
long. It took eight days to complete, as we walked through snow,
rain, strong winds and sunshine. The eight days were full of amazing
encounters with nature. One day we were seeking shelter in an emergency
hut to shelter from a snow storm, the next we were enjoying the sunshine.
Over the eight days we saw so many different types of wilderness from bare
rocky alpine conditions to a lush forest. We also climbed Mt Ossa
which was the highest mountain in Tasmania. Overall these eight days
provided us with many experiences that will never be forgotten.
