About the Friends of the GVD
The Friends of the Great Victoria Desert Parks is a volunteer group, formed in 1994. The group is affiliated with Friends of Parks Inc and operates under a memorandum of understanding with the South Australian Department of Environment and Natural Resources. We are supported by district rangers in Ceduna and Port Augusta, and our activities are planned with them and approved by the traditional owners of the area.
Aims
The aims of the Friends of the Great Victoria Desert Parks are:
- To provide voluntary assistance to rangers in the Far West District Office of National Parks and Wildlife South Australia (NPWSA) in caring for the parks and reserves in the South Australian section of the Great Victoria Desert.
- To promote and provide educational material on the Great Victoria Desert region to the general public
Patron
Our patron is Dr Mark Shephard OAM.
Joining
Membership is open to all at $25 per year for individuals or families.
If you join after the end of September, your membership will be current until the end of the following year.
Our Information Sheet (500 KB .pdf file) has a membership form which you can print and post to the treasurer. Email the treasurer for a form if your computer won't download it.
Meetings
We only have three general meetings per year, so this is a great group to join! See "News and Coming Events" on the home page for the date of the next meeting. The dates for all this year's meetings can be found in the Members' Area.
