Pako Festa

Every year since 1984 the Fiji community has been represented at Pako Festa which is held on a weekend in February in Pakington Street, West Geelong.  Pako includes dance, music, a street parade, food stalls, crafts. This festival draws over 20,000 people each year and is the biggest ethnic festival in Australia.

Our participation is usually a stall, a dance group, joining in the street parade, and sometimes a display of crafts. Here are some photos taken during the Pako Festa 2002.

Recently

At the last Diversitat Annual Meeting our group received two awards for 15 years of participation in Diversitat (formerly Geelong Ethnic Communities Council) - one for our President, the other for our community.

On Friday nights we have been meeting in the homes of our members which includes several Tongan families for drinking kava, telling stories, and having a delicious dinner together. We have several children which made for a lively, noisy and wonderful gathering.
