What we do ....
- Shooting/Hunting Training
Seymour F&G offers shotgun training and coaching on
clay targets to junior or novice shooters. Some of our
members are past members of the Australian Shooting Team.
We encourage junior shooters to participate. Members of
F&GA under 16 years of age shoot at our clay target days
at no cost (buy your own ammo), Seymour members under 18
shoot at no cost (buy your own ammo).
Junior shooters can also earn extra pocket money by
working the the clay target throwers at our shooting ground
on shoot days. Its hard work, but many teenagers find it a
good way to get into the sport and to make some extra money.
If you are interested, we would be happy to show you and your
parents around our facilities.
Our organised hunting trips are a great way to meet other
hunters and learn from them.
Safety is paramount at all our activities and we are fully
insured.
- Sporting Clays/Simulated Field
Sporting Clays or Simulated Field has been described as
being like "golf with a gun". Shooters walk between
stands where a number of clay targets are thrown in bush
sesttings to simulate hunting conditions. Targets vary from
"springers" (straight up) to "rabbits" (along
the ground) to incomers, outgoers and crossers thrown from
towers. It is a very social, fun and challenging game.
Simulated Field shoots are held every weekend at one or
more Field & Game Branches across Victoria.
Seymour shoots on the 1st Saturday and 3rd Wednesday of each
month (except January, February & total fire ban days).
New shooters are always welcome. There is no ground
nomination fee for Junior members of Seymour Branch or any
Sub-Junior member of other F&G branches.
Our junior shooters receive free coaching from a past
member of the Australian Shooting Team.

- Waterfowl I.D. Tests (W.I.T.)
- Before a licence for hunting ducks is issued, all
applicants must have passed a W.I.T.
Seymour F&G can help members to pass their W.I.T.

& Environment's web page relating to waterfowl

- Duck Hunting (Victoria)
- The duck season usually runs for 12 weeks, from mid March
to mid June.
-
- F&GA hold organised hunts for members each year,
including the "Duck Hunt Challenge" and the
North East Region's "Black Duck Classic". Other
branch hunts are organised.
-
- We want to help and encourage new hunters. One of the
benefits of membership is being able to meet other
hunters who are happy to give help to new members to make
their hunting more successful.
-
- Duck Opening (South Australia)
- Every year, a number of our members travel to the
Riverland in S.A. for their opening (in February). Any
F&G member wanting to join them is welcome. If you
are interested, you should come to one of our "hunter
hangout" nights, advertised in our newsletter.
-
- Quail
- The quail season runs fron 1st April to 30th June. Many
of our members hunt quail. If you are interested, you
should come to one of our "hunter hangout"
nights, advertised in our newsletter.
-
- Pheasants
- There are a number of hunting preserves in the Seymour
area that (for a fee) offer pheasant and partridge
hunting opportunities. Some members are forming
syndicates to establish their own by releasing pheasants
in suitable habitat. If you are interested, you should
come to one of our "hunter hangout" nights,
advertised in our newsletter.
-
- Conservation
- Seymour F&G is active in waterfowl and wetlands
conservation.
We have organised clean-up days at Lake Nagambie and
Reedy Lake. Lake Nagambie was our focus on World Wetlands
Day when Murray Goulburn Water provided a dump trck and
we filled it with rubbish left by fishermen and campers
on the lake.
We have a large number of nesting boxes built by memers
and erected on and about wetlands.
-
- Fox Drives
- Foxes are vermin that are not only a pest to farmers and
graziers, but do significant harm to our native wildlife.
To help control foxes, Seymour F&G organise a number
of fox drives during the winter months. Numbers are
strictly limited for safety reasons and are only open to
Seymour F&G members.
- Skeet
- Skeet is a clay target game that developed over 100 years
ago. It is an Olympic sport.
A total of 25 targets are shot from 8 different stations.
Seymour has a skeet ground that is usually open for
practice while "Simulated Field" competitions
are being held.
