The Melbourne Shakespeare Festival

Beginnings

The Melbourne Shakespeare Festival was originally created as an initiative of The Melbourne Shakespeare Society (Est 1884).

Now

The Melbourne Shakespeare Festival was incorporated in 2002 as a not-for-profit association.  All office holders do so in an honorary capacity.

Friends of The Festival

Chair: Myfanwy Thomas

The Friends of The Festival support the establishment of a regular Shakespeare Festival in Melbourne.  And they do this by way of a $15 donation to the Festival association, and by offering their time and support to the dedicated committee who are organising the event.  Enquiries may be directed to Myfanwy Thomas by phone 03 9763 6896 or email: Friends of The Festival

 

Statement of Purposes

Melbourne Shakespeare Festival Inc. A0042365K

 

1.   To create an annual Shakespeare Festival in Melbourne.

 

2.   To create and support other activities for the purpose of creating an annual Shakespeare Festival.

 

3.   To make the Melbourne Shakespeare Festival a major Australian celebration of the life, works and times of William Shakespeare.

 

4.   To liaise and build friendships with like-minded organizations and individuals in Australia and overseas.

 

5.   To present an annual festival program comprising individuals and organizations who treasure the life and works of William Shakespeare and have been inspired by his life, works and times to create art of their own.  And that artists and artworks of all media be included in the festival program where possible; the plays and poetry of William Shakespeare always remaining vital to the program.

 

6.   To encourage artists and devotees of the arts to contribute to and participate in this festival.

 

7.   To manage the festival and other associated activities in a business-like manner.
