Family: Leptodactylidae      Genus: Limnodynastes.

Description: The back is dark brown with a pale centre stripe. The under surface is smooth and white with pale flecks. The Frog has a large gland on the back of the calf containing a creamy secretion which is toxic to some potential enemies.

Length: (Adult) Male 55mm, Female 70mm.
Maximum tadpole length 60mm.

Habitat: Cool to warm temperate fresh water bodies with grassland, as found at Bushy Park Wetlands.

Distribution: The Frog is known to inhabit nearly 1 million square kilometres from south Eastern South Australia, to Tasmania, Victoria and up the NSW east coast to Tweed Heads.

Breeding: Spawn containing up to 3,900 pigmented eggs is laid in October or November in aquatic vegetation. The tadpoles are dark brown or black and the fins are dark grey. They complete their development in the summer or autumn.
