Description: A small dark frog with a variable back pattern and pink patches under the legs and arms. The undersurface is smooth and light grey with darker markings.

Length: (Adult) Male 25mm, Female 30mm.
Maximum tadpole length 28mm.

Habitat: Cool temperate open forest, as found in Bushy Park Wetlands.

Breeding: In April or May the female lays 90-160 pigmented eggs attached to tussocks or aquatic vegetation in damp places likely to flood. When the area floods the tadpoles hatch. They have a dark brown body with clear fins flecked with brown. The tadpoles take six to eight months to complete their development.

Mating call: The male mating call Speaker icon has a long introductory "a-a-a-a-ck" note, followed by a "pip" sound rapidly repeated at about 3 calls per second.
