Mandolins in Brisbane |
| Mandolins in Brisbane is an
ensemble currently consisting of eight mandolins, three mandolas, four
guitars, one double bass and various guest soloists. The ensemble
provides a wide range of music, including classical, light classical,
popular Italian and modern music written for the mandolin. Members meet
and rehearse on a regular basis (normally weekly) and are continually
striving to improve their musical range and quality of performance.
Mandolins in Brisbane currently hold three concerts a year and also perform at various venues such as 4MBS studio, The Irish Club, Brisbane City Council Library, retirement villages and the Thomas Dixon Centre (friends of the Philharmonic Orchestra). In April 2000, they recorded a CD for a commercial group and plan to record their own in 2001. Mandolins in Brisbane hosted the FAME Mandolin Camp during 2 to 8 Jul 2000 that was attended by approximately 80 players from Australia & New Zealand as well as overseas performers from Canada, Germany, Netherlands and the USA. A grand concert by the festival orchestra was held at the ABC Concert Studio on the 8 July 2000.
