The Esplanade Alliance

The St.Kilda Esplanade

In 1906 a Foreshore Committee—headed by the acknowledged "Great Public Servant of Victoria", Carlo Catani—was established to manage St.Kilda's foreshore land and the various amusements that were becoming a feature there. The tiered Esplanade was central to Carlo Catani's vision and is a key reason why so many people fall in love with St.Kilda.

The City of Port Phillip is about to put the various plans outlined in the St.Kilda's Edge UDF into action, much of this is long overdue restoration, but the framework does leave room for some unfortunate possibilities and it is important that everyone who cares about this historic promenade keep a close eye on development.
