The "Coolest" Scot, James Harrison was the "father of modern refrigeration" and lived right here in Geelong! James Harrison created the first ice making machine at Rocky Point, on the banks of the Barwon river in the mid 19th Century. His ice making machine, with a flywheel nearly 5m in diameter, could make 3000 Kg of ice a day. This allowed Australian perishable produce to be exported.
James Harrison also published the Geelong Advertiser, "Victorias oldest morning newspaper", was a Councillor on the first City of Geelong council and was a member of the Government of the Colony of Victoria.
The James Harrison Museum committee have acquired the land at Rocky Point and are endeavouring to build a Museum there.
Come and find out how James Harrison made an impact, not only on Geelong, but the world!
The dinner includes entry finger food, a three course meal and drinks (beer, wine and soft)
