IEAust Engineering Heritage Branch invites you to a presentation entitled:
| Speaker: | Ted Pritchard |
| Date and Time: | Thursday 16 August 2001 at 5.30 for 6.00 pm. |
The speaker, Ted Pritchard, will show a video of early road testing of his Ford Falcon steam conversion and endeavour to answer the question "Why bother with steam cars?" by giving comparisons with petrol and diesel powered vehicles, including emissions, costs, and driveability.
He will also give an account of some of his many automotive projects, including restoration of a Stanley steamer, a new steam truck engine, a Ford Falcon steam conversion and a Newer auto engine.
The speaker will conclude with a discussion of future prospects and the ongoing need for innovation and clever design. He will give some examples of how we can learn from the past and how old ideas have been revived because of advantages not previously appreciated.
Ted Pritchard is a qualified mechanical and automotive engineer with post-graduate qualifications in education. He is a recipient of the Hartnett Award from the SAE Aust. His professional experience includes working for private and semi-government bodies, eighteen years running his own company, Pritchard Steam Power Pty Ltd, doing R & D on steam automotive power, and thirteen years of lecturing in the Mechanical and Marine Dept. of RMIT Technical College. He currently consults to hospitals on improving steam steriliser performance.
