Behind the Scenes Tour - Public Record Office Victoria

Date and Time:    Thursday 19th July 2001     4:30pm to 6:30pm

The Public Record Office is the primary secure archive for records related to state and municipal government in Victoria. Its holdings include construction and maintenance records related to all the public works departments, including lands, surveys, roads, bridges, railways, mining, gas, electricity, water supply, irrigation, ports and public buildings dating from Colonial Victoria.

The prime purposes of this visit are:

• to provide the opportunity to see behind the scenes at the new Archives in North Melbourne,
• to raise awareness of the range of holdings of the PROV related to Engineering and Engineers: reports, contract books, contract plans, photographs, etc.
• to raise awareness of the need for indexing projects, microfiching projects, scanning projects, and so on, that would facilitate access to the holdings for researchers.
• to raise awareness of ways that the Institution of Engineers Australia and its members could contribute to such projects.
