IEAust Structural Branch invites you to a presentation entitled:

Restoring Dilapidated Masonry Structures

Speakers: David Beauchamp, Forensic & Heritage Engineer
John Geraghty, Mechfast
Date and Time:   Monday 25 June 2001 at 5.30 for 6.00 pm.

Masonry structures can deteriorate, crack and weaken for a variety of reasons. Many of our masonry structures such as historic buildings and bridges are now dilapidated and need repair. The long-term satisfactory performance of masonry requires good detailing and selection of appropriate materials. Lessons can be learnt from problems that have been encountered with stone, brick and concrete masonry in existing buildings. Innovative rectification methods have been developed to secure and strengthen masonry in need of repair.

David Beauchamp, a Forensic & Heritage Engineer, has many years of experience advising on the repair and rectification of existing masonry. David will discuss problems he has encountered including work on Parliament House stonework, leaning chimneys, brick growth in new and old structures, unusual cracking and reinforced masonry problems.

John Geraghty of Mechfast specialises in products for new and repairing existing masonry. John will provide a presentation on the Helifix Systems. Helifix products include innovative structural solutions for repairing and strengthening masonry structures from houses to churches and bridges. These systems have been used extensively in the United Kingdom providing a non-disruptive repair method for masonry stabilisation.

These presentations have been arranged by the Structural Branch of the Victorian Division IEAust and should be of interest to all structural engineers.
